The market town of Helmsley, just 3.5 miles from Foxholme, has long been a popular tourist destination, and rightly so with its market square and Friday market.
Recently voted Britain’s best market town, not only does it have a fascinating selection of independent shops but also boasts a magnificent ruined castle, a bird of prey centre and the Helmsley walled garden rescued from dereliction, offering a café, shop, plant sales or just a stroll through the grounds.
Harome is a small agricultural village a mile from Foxholme, renowned for its fine dining establishments. Both the Michelin starred, Star Inn, and the Pheasant Hotel with its idyllic setting overlooking the village pond, are justly famous and well worth a visit.
A stroll round the village will reveal a number of cruck framed, thatched, cottages once a common site throughout the vale, and also St. Saviour’s, the imposing Victorian Parish Church.

Monday is market day, with an additional Farmers’ market on the first Thursday of the month. Pickering is very much the ‘Gateway to the Moors’ and the National Park not only by road but also by rail, as the town is the southern terminus of the world famous North York Moors Railway, offering steam hauled travel to the coast at Whitby. The town also boasts an impressive medieval castle, a church with ancient wall paintings and an array of shops and supermarkets.

resort. The town’s setting on the two bays is breath taking, wonderful beaches, a bustling harbour, entertainment for all tastes.
A smaller, quieter family resort, yet the sweep of the bay reaching from Filey Brigg towards Flamborough Head provides a magnificent vista.
